Immigration concerns – Ways to help

  • Urge your representative to support
  • Check out volunteer options for Casa de Paz – bring meals to guests Casa, visit persons held at the immigrant detention center (ICE), ask about volleyball options, donate funds to help pay for rent.

Help combat HUMAN TRAFFICKING

  • Host a book review of “Girls Like Us”
  • Become the “eyes” and “ears” in your community
  • Work with lawmakers (i.e., advocate for the training of service providers and law enforcement)
  • Purchase “Sacred Mark” items from Ten Thousand Villages (items made from recycled sari cloth by women who previously were only able to earn a living in the sex trade)
  • If you live near Denver:
    • Call Prax(us) at 720-421-4311 and offer to:
      • Donate a meal for Monday night drop-in hours, for street-based youth
      • Donate snacks, water, socks for nightly street outreach
    • If you believe you may have a trafficking tip to report or need assistance, call the Colorado Network to End Human Trafficking (CoNEHT) Hotline at 1-866-455-5075 – place this hotline number on your cell phone!

Support REFUGEE programs

  • Make an MCC relief kit or comforter or infant care kit or sewing kit
  • If you live near Denver:
  • Purchase hand-blown glass items from Ten Thousand Villages (made by Palestinian artisans who live in the war-torn West Bank )

The MIDDLE EAST CONFLICT

  • Keep updated on the latest news from the Middle East by reading the:
    • Washington Memo, the blog of Mennonite Central Committee U.S. Washington Office on Capitol Hill and advocate for U.S. government policies that make for a more peaceful and just world.
    • Mennonite Palestine Israel Network (MennoPIN) – working for peace with justice in Palestine-Israel
  • Look for action items requested by organizations such as
  • Write or call your government representatives and consider asking:
    • How does the US hold Israel accountable for the $3 billion it gives to the Israel’s military annually?
    • Are US tax dollars being used by Israel for the demolition of Palestinian homes, attacks on Gaza, and the destruction of Bedouin crops?
  • Volunteer, take classes, donate or travel with Meet the Middle East (MTME)

Provide funding for MICROFINANCE loans
